Frequently Asked Questions
I cannot connect my device to the server
If NOMAD cannot connect to your server, i.e., cannot route data requests through your carrier to your server, open Configuration screen (Orange Icon) and check Property called “Device Side”. By default property is “false”, it is require setting it to “true”, then click menu button, hit update. And try to “Update Entire Application” again.
Why is my Blackberry running slow?
It is very important to understand that a Blackberry is a small device using micro processors with impressive capabilities; however its capabilities are far fewer than a computer’s processors. Loading background data with thousands of records onto your Blackberry device will cause NOMAD to use utilize all of the available memory and slow the operation of the device. It is very important to select a Blackberry that will meet your demands. For example, Blackberry Curve 8300 has more processing power and available memory than a Blackberry 8700, therefore applications with large datasets work more effectively on the Curve.
My Blackberry battery life is becoming shorter, what is the reason?
One of the major operations that drain Blackberry power is the radio. If the radio is powered to ON it will often consume more battery power. If your NOMAD installation has been set to autosync with the host it will utilize the radio for communications. It is very critical to select appropriate autosync times that will meet workflow demands and at the same time will not exhaust battery. We recommend refraining from using other applications and browsing on Blackberry with NOMAD on a constant basis. We always recommend frequent charging of the device that has applications such as NOMAD.
What is an appropriate auto synchronization time?
One of the most important reasons of choosing appropriate auto synchronization time is battery life. Older Blackberries have weaker batteries and less effective processors which will cause battery drain; it is recommended to use longer synchronization times in these cases. In most cases, 15 minutes is sufficient enough to keep Nomad6 operators up-to-date with new work orders and preserve battery life.
What do I do if background data changes?
It is very important to keep NOMAD background data up to date. This ensures data integrity and proper operation. It is also important to have established procedures in the event background information changes. This could include: Building, Floors, Rooms, Employee, Craftsperson, ProblemType, Priority, Department, Division, Sites, Equipment tables changes. We recommend setting in place scheduled Background data synchronization procedures that are able to be sent like email reminders to NOMAD users or that can be scheduled to autosync.
What does Error 500 mean?
Error 500 means that the DMX server did not start properly and it has an internal error. Please check tomcat/webapps/Nomad6/WEB-INF/log/dmx.log file for errors. Possible errors: Not enough space available for the log file, Connected to database but there is execution permission, Connection to database dropped permanently. Please check these accordingly.
What does Error 400 mean?
Error 400 means that the server started but it cannot operate due to communication reasons. Please check the URL in the browser to see if you find
http://Yourdomain:yourport/Nomad6/site .select?XMLInfo=
This produces data or returns an error. If you receive this error please check database connection settings in file tomcat/webapps/Nomad6/WEB-INF/config/dmx-projects.xml
Also check if server http://Yourdomain:yourport can be accessible from outside of your network. For example, from your Blackberry browser.
The Work Request has not been removed from the Blackberry and/or updates do not show up on server side.
This may be happening because of the date/time settings on Blackberry. They may not be in sync with the server. If the time on the Blackberry is behind the server time, server assumes that the Blackberry is sending old information. To update the time on the Blackberry please do the following:
Open Options, then Date/Time, select Menu and select Update Time, this will synchronize the Blackberry time with Carrier network time. In the case local network time is quite different from the Carrier time (please check first) user will have to set time manually.
